A well-deserved prize earned through hard work: Nadine Fähndrich lives up to her reputation in the second week of the World Championships.

Nadine, from Eigenthal, in Switzerland, is a high-flyer with a love of speed – two aspects which cement her relationship with sponsor Pilatus. “I feel like I’m flying as I glide through the snow, especially at full speed when sprinting. When I get into the flow in the snow, everything seems weightless, even the effort of the race disappears as I cross the finishing line – it’s an incredible feeling!”

Successful World Championship
The triple season’s sprinting winner achieved a strong eighth place in the ten kilometres skating individual event at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Planica. “I’m very happy with that result. I saw a steady improvement in my performance over the distance races.”

It was a surprise coup and therefore all the more emotional. “I got the best out of myself on this day – and that makes me and that makes me proud,” said Nadine Fähndrich. Until now, skating distance races have never been her forte. “It’s the first time after the World Cup that I’ve been at the top in this discipline”, she says, concluding that “the specific points we focused on during training are paying off. We did a lot of things right, I’m gradually becoming a more all-round cross-country competitor”. Such successes boost Nadine, who is from Lucerne and used to be rather shy, and give her self-confidence. The decision to bring professional management on board also helped her in this. Her new manager previously spent many years with Dario Cologna. Nadine spent a long time questioning herself and her abilities, but she is now a firmly-grounded confident young woman who does her own thing. She also has a new ski brand this season – Nadine Fähndrich now skis Salomon, and is totally happy with the change. In other respects, some things won’t change: “I’m immensely proud of the partnership with Pilatus and look forward to carrying that speed with me in the future.”
